1906 - The castle logo

As a trademark for the new line of products, Count Alexander von Faber-Castell chose a representation of a mediaeval castle, a reminder of his surname and feudal ancestry. The Franconian house of Castell can be traced back to the 11th century. In spite of its long tradition, the Castell family has a progressive image, operating one of the best known vineyards in the region and Bavaria’s oldest banking company, founded in 1776.
